BREAKING: ‘We’re heartbroken’: Young Limerick man dies in tragic workplace incident

A YOUNG man has tragically passed away following a workplace incident in West Limerick this Monday.

It is understood the man, aged in his early 20s, was working on a mini-digger in a derelict house in Athea at the time. It is believed that a chimney or wall may have fallen on him during the course of the renovations.

Following a query from Limerick Live, a spokesperson for the Health and Safety Authority (HSA)  said they are aware of the fatal incident.

“The HSA has launched an investigation into the circumstances. As such, no further information is available at this time,” said the HSA spokesperson.

Local county councillor, Liam Galvin said “this was just a terrible tragedy”.

“We’re heartbroken. I haven’t been talking to the family yet but I will be meeting them over the next few days. It’s just so, so, so sad. That’s all I can say about it,” said Cllr Galvin, who knows the deceased and his family well.

The Abbeyfeale-based Fine Gael councillor said the young man was “as nice a man as you could meet”.

“To his mum and dad and to the extended families, I’d like to offer my sympathies and condolences. It’s just just a tragedy,” said Cllr Galvin.

May he rest in peace.
