Rangers Set for Home Series Opener Against Yankees

Following a disappointing 2-1 loss to the Athletics on Sunday afternoon, the Texas Rangers are right back in action on Monday night.

Texas will welcome the 27-time World Series champion New York Yankees to Globe Life Field for their lone visit of the season.

The three-game series against the Yankees will mark the final series on the Rangers’ current nine-game homestand.

Entering play on Monday, the Rangers have a 3-3 record on the homestand and a 14-14 record on the season.

If the Rangers can find a way to take the series against the Yankees, they will finish with a winning record on the homestand and take a record above .500 on their next road trip.

Monday night’s game will certainly be a challenge for the Rangers as they will face Yankees ace Max Fried.

Entering play on Monday, Fried has a 3-1 record with a 2.40 ERA. Last season, Fried led the league with 19 wins.

Facing Fried will no doubt be a challenge for the Rangers’ offense, which has struggled at times, specifically against left-handed pitching.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rangers had multiple chances to push across more than just the one run they scored, but were unable to capitalize with runners on base.

Once again, Josh Jung will be someone to watch for from a Rangers perspective as he enters as one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball.

Jung also hits left-handers well, so there’s no doubt every time he steps up to the plate against Fried, it will be a fun matchup.

Pretty much all of the Rangers’ hitters don’t have a ton of experience against Fried, as he pitched in the National League for so long.

Andrew McCutchen, however, has faced Fried 22 times, hitting .227 against him throughout his career.

Taking the ball for the Rangers will be Jack Leiter, who looks to follow up on a solid start from his fellow Vanderbilt alum Kumar Rocker.

Entering play on Monday, Leiter features a 1-1 record with a 4.97 ERA. In his last start, Leiter rolled his ankle tripping over something in the on-deck circle, but fortunately for the Rangers, he avoided an injury and is good to go.

Fans not heading out to Globe Life Field on Monday can catch the game once again on the Rangers Sports Network and on 105.3 The Fan on the radio side of things.
