Cubs’ Alex Bregman Reacts to Walker Buehler Personal News Before Padres Game

The Chicago Cubs have put together an impressive month of April, highlighted by a 10-game winning streak that helped push them to a 17-11 record entering Monday’s matchup against the San Diego Padres.
Even with the strong start, the Cubs are still looking for more production from their biggest offseason addition, third basemanAlex Bregman. Chicago signed the 32-year-old veteran to a five-year, $140 million contract that runs through the 2030 season this past winter.
Through his first 28 games, Bregman has posted a .252 batting average, .336 on-base percentage and .710 OPS with three home runs and 10 RBIs.
While those numbers are solid, they fall short of the standard Bregman has set across his 11-year MLB career as a three-time All-Star, Gold Glove winner and Silver Slugger recipient.

As the Cubs continue their road trip at Petco Park, Bregman took a moment Monday to react to a personal announcement from Padres pitcher Walker Buehler, a player he will be facing this week.
Buehler is scheduled to start Tuesday’s game, but despite the upcoming matchup, the two share a close friendship. During the offseason, Buehler frequently trained at Club Nemesis, Bregman’s high-end baseball performance facility in Scottsdale, Arizona.
On Monday, Buehler and his wife revealed on Instagram they are expecting their second child. Bregman was one of the first to react to the news in support underneath the post. He commented, “❤️❤️❤️.”
Bregman understands the significance of family moments like this. His own family includes his wife, Reagan, and their two sons, Knox and Bennett. One of the biggest reasons he chose the Cubs was the full no-trade clause in his contract, a level of stability he wanted for his family as they settled into the next chapter of his career.
As Bregman continues working to find his peak form at the plate, moments like Monday’s reminder of friendship and support show why Chicago believed he was the right long-term fit, both on the field and in the clubhouse.
