Thousands without power after storms race through central Illinois

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Thousands of customers across Central Illinois are without power Monday evening as strong and severe storms raced across the state.
As of 10:45 p.m., over 2,600 people were without power in Champaign County, nearly 500 in DeWitt and Piatt counties, over 1,500 in Logan County and just under 300 in Macon County.
Statewide, nearly 23,000 customers were without power.

A line of strong and severe storms moved through the area Monday morning, at times with wind gusts over 50 miles per hour, hail and heavy rain. Then in the late afternoon and evening, a powerful second round of storms brought much of the same.
Severe weather happened for most of the day Monday, including hail, strong winds and tornadoes.
