Viewers crazy over new crime series: ‘Banger’

There’s a new crime series to add to your must-watch list and it’s not for the faint-hearted.
Prisoner is a Sky Original series set to air locally on BINGE from May 5, and if the newly released trailer is any indication, viewers are in for one hell of a cat-and-mouse game.
Starring Golden Globe nominee Tahar Rahim (The Serpent and The Mauritanian) and directed by Peaky Blinders director Otto Bathurst, Prisoner is a high-stakes British drama about treacherous inmate Tibor Stone (Rahim), a high-value prisoner set to testify against an elite crime syndicate.
His life is put in the hands of a young prison officer Amber (played by BAFTA winner Izuka Hoyle) who is tasked with transporting the criminal from his jail cell to the court house, but their transport convoy is ambushed by a crime syndicate.
The two have no choice but to form an unlikely alliance as they are forced to run while being shackled to each other. They must work together and trust each other – quickly – in order to reach their destination alive.
“Along the way, their uneasy alliance is tested as the syndicate closes in,” reads the synopsis. “Trust becomes a weapon and their shackled survival a moral dilemma, forcing Amber to confront how far she’ll go to protect what matters most.”

The trailer quickly clocked up close to three million views on YouTube alone since its release, with fans expressing their excitement for the series to premiere.
“Hell yes!” one commented on YouTube as another wrote, “Brilliant cast and series. Can’t wait.”
The sentiments were the same over on Instagram, with many not just loving the cast but also the song used in the trailer: The Blade by Aurora.
“Obsessed with the song choice,” one admitted as another said, “Whoever picked this song needs a raise.”
“@izukahoyle is next level talented! Will be watching!” one fan commented, with another saying, “It’s going to be a banger!!!”
“Brits make the best tv series. hands down,” another added.
In an interview with Deadline last month to promote the series, Rahim said he was excited to take on the layered role of Tibor – an intelligent but vulnerable man who is diabetic and has an IQ of 140.
“I never wanted to do an action piece that’s just about the action,” he told the outlet. “I needed something more and, in this show, the action is not gratuitous. It’s rooted in the story and is here to help the development of the story and the characters.”
“I liked it because it’s always fascinating to explore evil because it’s so far outside of the realm of our understanding and you still have a distance that allows you to accept crazy things that a character could do because it’s too far away from you.”
