Cool coast, warmer inland: Another quiet day on tap for Boston as we track the next weathermaker

High pressure will drift away from the region, and a weak system will slowly increase clouds across New England throughout the day. There may be a few scattered showers pushing into Western New England during the evening, but most will dry out by the time they reach the Boston area.

Highs will push into the 60s and low 70s once again from I-495 west, then the low 60s by I-95, and into the 50s along the immediate coast, including Boston.

The onshore flow and some clouds will likely keep a few of the immediate coastal communities in the upper 40s on Tuesday, reflecting a 15- to 20-degree temperaure difference from the coast to I-91 in Western Mass.

Winds won’t be much of an issue, but may become noticeable for folks along the coast, especially along the Cape.

Potent system bringing heavy rain late Wednesday
All signs point to a moderately potent system pushing into New England late Wednesday and through much of Thursday. We’ll likely see steady rainfall and a few rumbles of thunder from this system, the same one that will actually drop numerous tornadoes across the Plains on Tuesday afternoon.

Greater Boston: A blend of sun and clouds with patchy morning fog. Highs to the upper 40s to mid-50s in Boston and the North and South Shores.
Central/Western Mass.: Mostly sunny with highs to the mid-60s in the Berkshires, warmer to 70 east. Clouds increase during the day. A spot shower west of Worcester.
Southeastern Mass.: Blend of sun and clouds, highs from the mid-50s to the low 60s. A few patchy areas of morning fog.
Cape Cod and Islands: Increasing clouds with a bit of a breeze. Highs to the upper 40s and low 50s.

Rhode Island: Mix of sun and clouds, highs to the mid-60s. A bit of a breeze.
New Hampshire: Partly to mostly sunny. Highs to the mid and upper 60s.
Vermont/Maine: Vermont sees increasing clouds, but highs reach the upper 60s and low 70s. A couple of spot afternoon showers. Maine sees a mix of sun and clouds with highs to the mid-50s along the coast, low 60s inland.
Connecticut: Mix of sun and clouds with highs reaching the upper 60s. A spot shower during the evening west of Hartford.
