Rumors and buzz around a fourth season began with Deadline’s exclusive report about Warner Bros’ Television’s initial pick up options on three original cast members. Soon after it was confirmed that the Sudeikis-co-created series would return.
Star Hannah Waddingham had previously said the team was targeting an August premiere date. She will be returning to Ted Lasso alongside the likes of Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift. New cast includes Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely.
Sudeikis, who created the show with Bill Lawrence, confirmed his return for Season 4 on the New Heights podcast co-hosted by American football players Travis and Jason Kelce. Waddingham portrays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton, whose arc over three seasons took her from vicious enemy to vital friend. Goldstein plays gruff retired footballer and now assistant coach of AFC Richmond Roy Kent. Swift portrays Director of Football Operations and Diamond Dog member Leslie Higgins.
Deadline also broke the news that the series will recast for the role of Ted’s son Henry (previously portrayed by Gus Turner). Now aged 12, Henry, who FaceTimed his dad a lot in Seasons 1-3 of the series, has become a skilled soccer player himself. Grant Feely, known for playing young Luke Skywalker in Disney+ and Lucasfilm’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, will play Henry.
Season 4 is adding Jack Burditt as executive producer under a new overall deal with Apple TV. Sudeikis stars and executive produces alongside Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee and Bill Wrubel. Goldstein serves as writer and executive producer alongside Leann Bowen. Sarah Walker and Phoebe Walsh will serve as writers and producers, and Sasha Garron co-produces. Julia Lindon will write for season four, and Dylan Marron will serve as story editor. Bill Lawrence executive produces via his Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal. Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer also serve as executive producers.
The series was developed by Sudeikis, Lawrence, Kelly and Hunt, and is based on a preexisting format and characters from NBC Sports.
