Dylan Carter dead – ‘The Voice’ singer died in Tesla car accident

Dylan Carter, a former “The Voice” contestant, died at 24 after striking a curb and a utility pole before his Tesla overturned.

More details have been released after the death of “The Voice” alum Dylan Carter.

The country musician and Season 24 contestant died in a car accident on Saturday, April 25, at the age of 24.

Carter was driving south in a 2026 Tesla on U.S. Route 21 in Colleton County, over an hour west of Charleston, South Carolina, when his car veered right and “ran off the road,” the South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed to USA TODAY Tuesday. He struck a curb, utility pole and fence before the car overturned. Carter, who was riding alone, was driving the only car involved.

He was later taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Dylan Carter’s cause of death

The Colleton County Coroner’s Office told USA TODAY on April 28 that Carter had died from blunt force trauma. He was wearing a seatbelt and “was the only occupant in the vehicle,” the spokesperson confirmed.

Highway patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.

The coroner’s office previously told TMZ that Carter’s death has been ruled accidental.

The South Carolina native was a contestant on “The Voice” in 2023 and was a member of Reba McEntire’s team. During his audition, Carter, whose mother died of a heart blockage, paid tribute with an emotional rendition of “I Look to You” by Whitney Houston (a song she’d requested for Carter to sing at her funeral).

The intimate performance struck a chord with the coaches, earning the then-20-year-old a four-chair turn.

“This was the best second chance,” Carter said afterward onstage. “I just made her so proud.”

McEntire, who was visibly choked up by Carter’s audition, praised the singer for his raw emotional delivery. “I saw you get so emotionally involved, and that’s when you know you’ve got a great song and a great singer, when it touches your heart.”

The country legend paid tribute to Carter, who was eliminated in the Battle Rounds, on her Instagram story on April 27, calling him a “brilliant, talented and kind young man who brought a huge ray of sunshine to ‘The Voice.’ Rest in peace, my dear friend.”
