Sun releases two strong solar flares, NASA says

The Sun released two strong solar flares, NASA said. The first peaked at 9:07 p.m. EDT on April 23. The second peaked at 4:13 a.m. EDT on April 24.

If you’ve always wanted to see your name spelled out in giant letters, NASA can help you with that.

NASA offers a free interactive tool that allows users to type their name into a search bar and see it spelled out in natural formations on Earth as viewed from outer space, courtesy of data from NASA’s Landsat satellites.

“With each new launch, Landsat’s decades-long data record becomes even more valuable. As the longest continuous space-based record of Earth’s surface, Landsat offers a unique resource to scientists studying long-term changes. Researchers have used Landsat’s archive to study how cities have grown, coastlines have shifted, crop cycles have changed, and forests have transformed since the 1970s,” NASA’s website says.

Here’s what to know about NASA’s Landsat name images.

How can you see your name in NASA’s Landsat images?

To see your name in NASA’s Landsat images, visit the “Your Name in Landsat,” interactive tool on NASA’s website.

Type your name into the text box that says “enter a name,” and press enter to view your results. The website will display the landforms that correspond to the letters in your name and provide the location where they are found in longitude and latitude, and by name.

The interactive tool uses landsat images the NASA Earth Observatory, NASA Worldview, USGS EarthExplorer and ESA Sentinel Hub, according to NASA.

What are Landsat images?

Landsat images are pictures of Earth’s surface taken by satellites from outer space, part of a program managed by NASA and the U.S. Geological Survey, according to NASA. The data goes back over 50 years and is used by scientists, land managers, planners and policymakers on matters related to the environment and natural resources, NASA said.

What is NASA?
