Fame isn’t new territory for Jaafar Jackson — it’s the family business.
The rising star is the nephew of Michael Jackson, born in 1996 to Jermaine Jackson and Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza. The pair, who married in 1995 and later divorced in 2008, also share a younger son, Jermajesty Jermaine Jackson, born in 2000.
Like his famous father — who was in the Jackson 5 — Jaafar caught the performing bug early, appearing in several family-centered projects over the years, including 2015’s The Jacksons: Next Generation.
Most recently, he stepped into an especially personal role, portraying his late uncle in the biopic Michael, which premiered on April 24. But Jaafar kept the major casting news under wraps for a full year before telling his parents.
“No one in my family knew for a full year. I kept it pretty quiet until I felt comfortable enough to share it,” he told Miles Teller for Interview magazine. “But when my mom saw it on-screen, it blew her away.”
Here’s everything to know about Jaafar’s parents, Jermaine Jackson and Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza.

Jermaine was with the Jackson 5 from 1964 to 1975 as a second vocalist and bass player. He later rejoined the group in 1983 as they rebranded to the Jacksons.
In addition to having incredible success with his brothers in the Jackson 5, including receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Jermaine also had success as a solo artist in the 1980s, including a Grammy nomination for his 1980 album Let’s Get Serious and various top 30 hits on the Billboard charts.

Following the news of their divorce, Halima released a statement to PEOPLE, saying, “With a great amount of sorrow and regret, I today announce that I am filing for divorce from Jermaine Jackson.”
“We have enjoyed many good times during our marriage of nearly 12 years, but we have reached a point where our lives would be better and more productive if we are not married. I respect and care for Jermaine and his legendary family, and feel blessed to have been a part of the Jacksons,” the statement continued.
