Madrid Open LIVE: Fils sees off Lehecka after Sinner and Kostyuk battle into semis

It’s a huge day of action in the Spanish capital, with the remaining two women’s quarter-finals taking place, while Jannik Sinner looks to seal his spot in the last four of the men’s tournament.

23:13 CET – France’s Arthur Fils is a Madrid Open semi-finalist! The world number 25, who has already won once on the ATP Tour in 2026, has beaten Jiri Lehecka for a third time in his career with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Comfortable throughout the 75-minute encounter, gave away no break points, and had 10 winners along with just two aces.

He will play world number one Jannik Sinner for a place in the showpiece on Sunday.

22:37 CET – Arthur Fils ahead in Madrid. The Frenchman has taken the first set against Jiri Lehecka 6-3, breaking the Czech 11th seed’s serve in the second game before being reliable on his own serve to win the set.

Can Lehecka find a reply to take it to a decider?

21:54 CET – The final clash of the day sees two of the most exciting talents in men’s tennis do battle, with Barcelona champion Arthur Fils taking on Miami runner-up Jiri Lehecka.

Lehecka prevailed when the two met in the semis in the Sunshine State, but Fils has won each of his eight matches since then, and has arguably been the third-best men’s player of 2026 thus far, behind the obvious two.

21:41 CET – Kostyuk has sealed her spot in the semis with an absolutely dominant second-set display, with the Ukrainian not dropping a single game and wrapping it up in 24 minutes.

Her 7-6, 6-0 win means that she’s now won 10 matches in a row and all nine in her 2026 clay-court season. She’s in the form of her life.

21:15 CET – Marta Kostyuk has drawn first blood in the second women’s quarter-final of the day, winning a gruelling opening set with 13th seed Linda Noskova 7-6 (1) after one hour and five minutes.

18:18 CET – Jannik Sinner has come through a thrilling 72-minute second set against Rafael Jodar to triumph 6-2, 7-6(0), and seal his place in the Madrid Open semi-finals.

After a straightforward opening set, the Italian was severely tested by the young Spaniard in the second, with Jodar creating five break-point opportunities (all of which were saved by Sinner).

Having taken the top seed to a tie-break, Jodar was unable to match Sinner’s level, as the irrepressible Italian won all seven points to set up a last-four meeting with either Jiri Lehecka or Arthur Fils.
