Jackie Robinson impact on baseball and the Los Angeles Dodgers
How Jackie Robinson reshaped Major League Baseball and built a lasting legacy of diversity and community with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Can the Philadelphia Phillies open up the Don Mattingly Era in Philadelphia with back-to-back wins over the San Francisco Giants?
That’s an objective that Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Co. will have to wait at least one extra to accomplish.
The Phillies announced just before their 6:10 p.m. ET first pitch against the Giants that Wednesday’s game has been postponed due to inclement weather, and will now be played in a split doubleheader on Thursday at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Game 1 of the doubleheader will start at 12:35 p.m. ET on Thursday, with Game 2 set for 5:35 p.m. ET.
Behind a four-hit night from Turner and lights-out pitching from Jesus Luzardo, who signed a five-year, $135 million contract extension this past offseason, the Phillies were able to quiet the outside noise on their struggling start to the season with a 7-0 win over the Giants in game one of the three-game series on Tuesday.
The Phillies fired Rob Thomson on Tuesday after four seasons. Thomson, who led the Phillies to the World Series in 2022 as interim manager, led the organization to a pair of National League East Division Titles, a National League pennant and a 355-270 record.
Wednesday night’s pitching matchup was set to a pair of pitchers who competed in the World Baseball Classic: Phillies southpaw ace Christopher Sanchez (2-2 with a 2.94 ERA) and Giants right-hander Logan Webb (2-3 with a 4.86 ERA).
The Phillies will head into Thursday’s doubleheader with a 10-19 record on the season, while the Giants are 13-16 under first-year manager Tony Vitello.
