Cambria County OKs sale of two long-vacant Ebensburg buildings to help cut costs

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Cambria County commissioners are moving to sell off two unused county-owned buildings, aiming to cut costs and return the properties to the tax rolls.
Leaders approved bids on Thursday for properties in Ebensburg — one on Manor Drive selling for $63,000 to Delbert Framing, Roofing, & Siding LLC, and another on South Center Street for nearly $96,000 to Jonathan Steingraber.
Officials say the buildings have sat vacant for years, costing taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars annually in maintenance, insurance and utilities.
County leaders say that once the buildings are renovated and officially sold, they’ll lose their tax exempt status and begin generating property tax.
“I’m not quite sure what these individuals will be doing with those properties,” said county solicitor Ronald Repak. “But if they have economic development, maybe they can bring in jobs, bring in assets, and more importantly, they’re able to get revenue onto the books for taxable properties.”
The county had previously put the properties out for bid, multiple times, without success.
This time, county leaders say they expanded the search nationwide, bringing in new buyers.
