Connor Bedard won’t be suiting up for the Red and White this month.
Bedard wanted to play, but was told that rehabbing his injury and skipping the event would be best ahead of next season, Friedman added.
The North Vancouver, B.C. native missed nearly a month of action after suffering a shoulder injury against the St. Louis Blues on Dec. 12.
Despite the injury, the 20-year-old centre still set career highs with 30 goals and 45 assists in 69 games this season.
The men’s world championship is slated for May 15-31, with Canada opening its tournament on May 15 against Sweden.
And though Bedard won’t be there, the Canadians will have plenty of talent on their roster.
Macklin Celebrini, Gavin McKenna, Mark Scheifele, Mathew Barzal and Morgan Rielly are among the players who have already committed to play for Canada.
