Julio: When it’s clicking, Mariners ‘one of the best teams in baseball’

The Seattle Mariners won for the fifth time in their last six games on Tuesday night, and Julio Rodríguez was a big part of it.

Rodríguez went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two runs batted in, and all three of his hits in the 7-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins were doubles.

Though the 25-year-old Rodríguez had a tough first eight games to the season, he’s been solid in his 23 games and 100 plate appearances since. Rodríguez has a .308 batting average, .370 on-base percentage and .810 OPS with six doubles, two home runs, 11 runs, 11 RBIs and 28 hits in that stretch.

“I feel really good. I’ve been taking my hits,” Rodríguez told Mariners insider Shannon Drayer on the field after Tuesday’s win on the Mariners Radio Network broadcast on Seattle Sports. “I’ve just been patient, trying to put up good at-bats night in, night out, making sure I’m swinging at the right pitches, and today I was just rewarded with three doubles. I was happy to be able to support the team on that end too, and it was a lot of huge contribution for everybody.”

Rodríguez was sure to highlight that the Mariners’ lineup as a whole has shaken off a slow start to the season to show what’s it capable of as of late. And he feels pretty good about that.

“I just feel like when everything is clicking like that, we’re just one of the best teams in baseball,” he said.

Rodríguez and the Mariners (15-16) are wrapping up their road trip Wednesday with a game set for a 10:40 a.m. start in Minnesota, which you can hear live on Seattle Sports. The M’s are off Thursday, then begin a six-game homestand Friday at 6:40 p.m. against the Kansas City Royals.
