Burnham and Bridgwater firefighters postpone 5km charity Parkrun in breathing apparatus

A gruelling charity challenge planned by firefighters from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater has been postponed today (May 2nd) due to a health issue within the crew.
Firefighters Hannah and a colleague had been preparing to take on the Burnham and Highbridge 5K Parkrun while wearing full breathing apparatus, aiming to complete the entire course without changing their BA cylinder — a demanding test of stamina, strength, and controlled breathing.
A spokesperson for the team confirmed the postponement, adding that the challenge remains very much on the cards. “It will be a real test physically and mentally,” they said. “The pair have been training hard to maintain a steady breathing rate throughout the run while carrying the weight of the equipment.”
The event is being held in support of The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides vital physical, mental, and social assistance to serving and retired fire service personnel and their families across the UK.
“Any donation, big or small, would be massively appreciated,” the team added. “The charity does incredible work supporting members of the fire service during some of the toughest moments of their lives.”
Donations can be made through the crew’s JustGiving page, with all funds going directly to the charity.
The firefighters say they hope local residents will get behind them when the challenge is rescheduled and cheer them on during the Parkrun.
