India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav represents Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. On Saturday, May 2, during MI’s ninth match of IPL 2026, which is taking place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai against Chennai Super Kings, he entered his name in the record books by becoming MI’s second-highest run-getter in T20s.

Surya, who led India to the T20 World Cup title win in 2026, needed four runs to go past Kieron Pollard’s tally of 3915 runs, and he achieved the objective by scoring four on the first ball of his innings (6.5 overs).

He faced a total of 12 balls during his stay at the crease as a No. 4 batter on Saturday, and with the help of 3 fours and 1 six, scored 21 runs. Surya was sent back to the pavilion by debutant Ramakrishna Ghosh on the fourth ball of the 11th over of MI’s innings.

Only Rohit Sharma has managed to score more runs in the 20-over format of the game for the Mumbai-based franchise. Rohit, who last played a competitive cricket match on April 12 in Mumbai against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has 6286 runs to his name in 240 T20 matches for Mumbai Indians.
