Man United need a hero: Liverpool clash comes at perfect time for Bryan Mbeumo to rediscover scoring touch

Manchester United are preparing to welcome arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League this weekend.

It is a high-stakes encounter for both sides, with United just one win away from sealing qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool are trailing the Red Devils but their chances of finishing in the top five have been boosted by Chelsea’s downfall.

United stunned Liverpool at Anfield earlier this season, ending a nine-year wait for victory on that ground.

They now have the chance to complete a rare league double over their arch-rivals and hand supporters another memorable moment.

One player who must rise to the occasion is Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo exploded out of the blocks this season, racing to 10 goals by February.

Nine of those strikes came in the Premier League, underlining his importance in the final third.

He also made an electric start under interim boss Michael Carrick, scoring decisive goals against Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in his first four matches.

At that point, it seemed inevitable that Mbeumo would become the first United player to reach double figures in the league this campaign.

However, the narrative has shifted dramatically over the past three months.
The 26-year-old is now enduring a frustrating drought in front of goal.

He has featured in all nine games during this barren spell but has failed to score.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Sesko has surged ahead, netting his 10th league goal against Brentford, while Casemiro has climbed to nine.

Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes are also closing in with eight goals each.

With just four games remaining, United will be desperate for Mbeumo to rediscover his scoring touch.

And what better stage to do it than against Liverpool under the lights at Old Trafford?
