Borussia Dortmund sporting director Nils-Ole Book has praised Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho and hinted that talks may be taking place to sign him for a third time. Sancho’s United career has been effectively over since his outburst following a defeat to Arsenal in September 2023.
Then manager Erik ten Hag decided not to name Sancho in his squad due to his performances in training. This led to Sancho going on social media and calling out his boss who he claimed had made him a ‘scapegoat’. After a meeting with Ten Hag, the winger opted not to retract his comment, albeit he did delete the post.
This led to Sancho being banished from the first team until January 2024 when he was loaned to Dortmund. His half season back in Germany was a success as the United man helped Dortmund reach the Champions League final. However, when he returned to Old Trafford, the Bundesliga club were unwilling to make the deal permanent.

Sancho made amends with Ten Hag but was loaned to Chelsea last season. They had an obligation to buy him last summer but instead paid £5m not to after a poor campaign. Despite Ten Hag leaving and Ruben Amorim arriving, Sancho was loaned to Aston Villa and has struggled in the Midlands too.
He has scored just one goal in 35 appearances. Sancho is now destined to leave United at the end of the season when his contract expires but his next destination is unclear but Book has suggested to Sky in Germany that Dortmund may offer Sancho a lifeline.
“We all know that Jadon Sancho is a talented, highly gifted player who has left a lasting impression here in Dortmund – with his technical ability and creativity,” he said.
“Unfortunately I cannot reveal anything about the status of discussions.” Asked whether he would fit Dortmund manager Niko Kovac’s system, Book added: “I believe Niko is a manager who is open to creative elements in his play.
“However, we mustn’t overestimate whether this player would be a good fit for him. There are a few others who would suit him as well.”
