White House Posts Image of Trump as the Mandalorian to Celebrate Star Wars Day

Is this the way?

The White House posted a meme Monday showing President Donald Trump depicted as the hero of Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” series and the upcoming movie “The Mandalorian and Grogu” — timed, of course, for May the 4th (aka “Star Wars Day”). Trump’s Mandalorian is accompanied by alien child and Jedi trainee Grogu, aka “Baby Yoda,” and Trump is carrying an American flag… although Star Wars takes place “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away,” presumably before the foundation of the United States of America.

“In a galaxy that demands strength — America stands ready. This is the way. May the 4th be with you,” the White House’s post on social media said.

In the image, Trump-as-Mandalorian is holding the bounty hunter’s helmet in his hand. And under ordinary circumstances, it’s a severe violation of the Mandalorian code to be seen bare-faced. However, there are certain loopholes that the Disney+ series has taken liberties with, as described in this ScreenRant article, as producers wanted to give Pedro Pascal (who plays the titular character) some actual screen time.

Variety has reached out to Walt Disney Studios for comment about the White House’s post.

On Star Wars Day in 2025, the White House shared an AI-generated image of Trump as a jacked Jedi with a caption that said, “Happy May the 4th to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting so hard to bring Sith Lords, Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, & well known MS-13 Gang Members, back into our Galaxy. You’re not the Rebellion — you’re the Empire. May the 4th be with you.” While the post referred to Trump’s political opponents as the evil Sith Lords, the lightsaber Trump held in the image is red, which is traditionally used only by Star Wars villains like Darth Vader.

Trump and MAGA supporters have deployed other pop-culture memes to portray Trump as some kind of superhuman freedom-fighting warrior. For example, ahead of the 2024 election, Trump shared an image depicting himself as Superman and other associates as DC superheroes (including JD Vance as Batman). Meanwhile, Trump last month shared an AI image of himself as a Christ-like figure healing a sick man, which was removed from the president’s Truth Social account after a backlash.

Disney’s “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is slated to hit theaters May 22, 2026. Jon Favreau directed the movie, which follows Pascal’s Din Djarin (aka Mando) and Grogu (formerly known as The Child) as they navigate a galaxy still recovering from the fall of the Empire. According to the official logline, the story is set after the fall of the Galactic Empire, with Imperial warlords still scattered throughout the galaxy. The fledgling New Republic works to protect what the Rebellion fought for and turns to the legendary bounty hunter and his young apprentice for help.
