East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy has admitted star man John Robertson has played his last game for the newly-crowned League Two champions.
The forward is the top goal scorer in Scotland across all competitions with 32 goals and took his League Two tally to 20 by scoring the opener in yesterday’s 5-0 win over Clyde after just 72 seconds. He also has 11 assists.
That helped crown Kilby champions and secured back-to-back promotions for both Kennedy and the former St Johnstone striker.
Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed last month that Robertson – who is up for the PFA Scotland League Two Player of the Year tonight – had been offered a deal by Championship side Raith Rovers and would mull that over after the season had finished.
Asked if they would be able to hold on to Robertson for next season, Kennedy said: “No we won’t and I’m sure that will be announced in the coming days and weeks, that John will move on elsewhere.
East Kilbride’s John Robertson scores to make it 1-0
“He has been a magnificent servant for the club and he has made some contribution. He has been a significant servant to the club, made a massive contribution to the club and we have played a big part in his career so he moves on.
“But that is what we do here. The recruitment in the summer will be a lot of young boys coming in, players coming out of academies and things like that.
“We give players the platform to move their careers on and John is one of those people. We wish him all the best.”
