First Alert: Showers & storms return

Monday

We’ll see a mix of clouds and some sunshine today. We can’t rule out a stray shower or two, but most stay dry. Our highs return the 70s for most.

Tuesday

High pressure will continue to control our weather into Tuesday with sunshine and warmer temperatures. Highs will climb back to and above average into Wednesday.

Showers & Storms Return

We’ll be watching a surface low approaching the area mid-week. If this tracks into out region, we could be talking about a decent chance for scattered showers and storms later Wednesday into Thursday.

Updated Drought Monitor

The drought monitor continues to reflect our dry pattern. Severe drought covers almost our entire viewing area, but now we have some extreme drought moving into the eastern part of the region.

The eastern part of the region is now under an Extreme drought.(WDBJ7)

An incredible amount of rain is required to wipe out the current major drought. In fact, even the wettest May on record back in 1898 that produced 9.08″ of rain wouldn’t be enough!!!

A substantial amount of rain is needed to wipe out the ongoing severe to extreme drought.(WDBJ)
