Irish Earn #2 Seed In 2026 NCAA Tournament – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics Website

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team earned the No. 2 national seed and will welcome the winner of Wednesday’s game between Jacksonville and Robert Morris to South Bend for the first round of the 2026 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship on Sunday, May 10.

Notre Dame (10-2) won the ACC regular-season title with a record of 3-1 and earned the top seed in the conference tournament for the third straight season.
The Irish will be the overall No. 2 seed in the tourney for the second time in program history, also earning the second-overall seed in 2013.
The winner of Notre Dame’s first-round contest will take on the winner of the first-round tilt between No. 7 seed Cornell and Johns Hopkins in the quarterfinals. The Irish are in the Hempstead, New York quarterfinal, which will be played on Saturday, May 16.
NOTRE DAME IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
- The Irish have won two national championships in program history, coming in 2023 and 2024.
- Notre Dame owns a 30-26 record in 28 previous trips to the NCAA Championship.
- The Irish have now made 19 of the last 20 NCAA Championship fields.

- The Irish have advanced to at least the NCAA Championship quarterfinals in 13 of its last 14 appearances.
- This is the 16th time overall–and 15th time in the last 18 seasons–the Irish have earned one of the eight national seeds for the NCAA Championship.
- The Irish also were seeded for the 2001 (5th), 2008 (6th), 2009 (7th), 2011 (4th), 2012 (4th), 2013 (2nd), 2014 (6th), 2015 (1st), 2016 (3rd), 2017 (4th), 2018 (7th), 2019 (7th), 2021 (6th), 2023 (3rd) and 2024 (1st) tournaments.
- Notre Dame advanced to the NCAA championship weekend in 2001, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015 and played in the title game in 2010 and 2014 to go along with the 2023 and 2024 titles.
The 18-team NCAA Championship field consists of 10 automatic-qualifying teams and eight at-large squads. The top eight teams in the bracket are seeded.
