Shaun Murphy’s third fiancee will be cheering him on in the World Snooker Championship final today as he bids for a second Crucible victory.

His bride-to-be, a well-known musician, won a significant personal battle of her own four years ago when undertaking a dramatic physical transformation. Murphy is engaged to pianist and vocalist Jo Rochell, who was eager to showcase her newly toned figure after shedding 16kg.

Rochell shared before and after photographs of her remarkable fitness journey on Instagram back in 2022, outlining the methods she employed to achieve her improved physique, along with her updated measurements.

She wrote: “Ok – here goes! Finally spilling the beans on what I’ve been doing! For the last 5 months, I’ve been on a fitness and nutrition journey!! I’ve trained, I’ve lifted weights, I’ve run, I’ve walked countless steps, and I’ve counted every single calorie that’s passed my lips! And here’s the results in black and white.

“Weight : 90kg – 74kg, Chest : 103cm – 89cm, Waist : 83cm – 74cm, Hips : 105cm – 87cm. I’ll be posting some more transformation photos and videos soon, as I’ve had lots of messages asking for more info.” Followers in the comments section described her astonishing change as “amazing” and “incredible”.

Her decision to transform her body came around a year after she first met Murphy who had booked her for a gig. Five years on, the pair are engaged to be wed after the snooker star popped the question last November.

Discussing the special moment, Murphy said: “We went out for dinner and I had the ring in my pocket and it was all very low key. In the end, it didn’t feel right to do it in the restaurant in front of a load of strangers, so we went home and had a drink and just did it in the privacy of our own home.

“It was a nice personal moment, and as I say, it was very special, it’s been a long time coming. We’re both really delighted, excited.” Murphy enjoyed a successful 2023 following his engagement as he lifted the Players Championship, Tour Championship and Champions League.

After drawing a blank in 2024, the former world champion secured victory at the Welsh Open last year and now has the chance to claim a second world title against Wu Yize, more than 20 years after he first won the trophy in 2005 by defeating Matthew Stevens.

Wu is making his debut appearance at the World Championship and was earmarked to be the sport’s best player in the coming years by Ronnie O’Sullivan. The seven-time world champion said: “I think Wu Yize is going to be the number one in the world in three years.

“He’ll be world champion very quickly. He’s more like the old Steve Davis and has bigger potential. I worked with him for 2-3 days. This boy is very special. He’s only 22.”
