Marc Guehi plays like he has taken everything in his stride at Manchester City, stepping up from Crystal Palace to be a calming presence in the defence. For all the experience that he had before joining, Guehi has been wowed by City captain Bernardo Silva.
Silva has featured for Pep Guardiola more than any other player in nine trophy-laden years at the Etihad and will leave as one of the club’s most decorated players. Having been chosen as the skipper for this year, he still has the opportunity to lift another two trophies before an emotional farewell to Blues after the final Premier League game of the season at home to Aston Villa.
While many of Silva’s talents are well-known, his actual skills on the pitch may be underrated. He was overlooked for individual awards in the 2018/19 season when Guardiola thought he was the best player in the league, and former Palace defender Guehi has already put him into his top three most talented teammates.

It is also Silva’s leadership that stands him out for Guehi though, and the way that he looks after every member of the squad around the training ground away from the cameras. Having played against him for so many years, sharing a dressing room has given new insight into the importance of City’s skipper.
“He’s probably one of the best players I’ve played with, top three for sure,” said Guehi. “He’s an incredible leader. How vocal he is actually surprised me because, with someone with his quality, you just feel like he just performs on the pitch and, and leads on the pitch with his performances, but he’s very vocal. He’s really supportive to every single person in the squad.
” It’s not just in key moments, it’s every single day. When you have someone like that, who is the captain, who is the leader and leads by example like that, it’s fantastic. But it’s, it’s not just him, it’s so many others in the squad – Rodri, Erling, Ruben, there are so many guys.
“Obviously, now we know that he’s leaving, it’s really sad for the football club, but I’ve enjoyed playing with him and, hopefully get to play against him, maybe, at some point again in the future.”
