Insider Reveals How Mike Vrabel Scandal Has Impacted Patriots Trading For A.J. Brown

The New England Patriots were reportedly likely to trade for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown after June 1, and Adam Schefter recently revealed how the recent Mike Vrabel scandal impacts that.

Schefter appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday and spoke about the Patriots trading for Brown. He noted that it is still likely that he ends up in New England, and it is just a matter of the two parties coming together and finalizing the trade after June 1. More importantly, he confirmed that the recent scandal surrounding Vrabel and the Patriots has not negatively impacted a trade.

“There’s nothing that has transpired here, despite all of the events in New England, that has deterred this trade from coming up,” Schefter said on Monday. “I still think it is on track. I still think it is going to happen. I still think it’s likely to involve a future 1, likely a 2028 first-round draft pick.”

When Schefter says “events in New England,” it is pretty clear what he is referring to. However, perhaps the biggest indicator of a Brown trade coming is actually what did not happen in New England. The Patriots did not add a wide receiver through the NFL Draft.

The team signed Romeo Doubs to replace Stefon Diggs, but that may not actually be enough to improve the receiving corps significantly. The wide receiver room could still use help, and the fact that the Patriots did not use a pick on a wide receiver is telling of the fact that they think they will be getting Brown next month.

Meanwhile, the Eagles traded up in the first round to select a wide receiver. All signs are pointing to Brown’s time with the Eagles coming to an end very soon.
