Jude Law Phillipa Coan were hard to miss as they displayed open affection during a sunlit stroll and dinner in Rome, with the 53-year-old actor and his 38-year-old psychologist wife locking lips and embracing in the streets.

Jude Law Phillipa Coan turn heads with romantic public display

The Holiday star appeared smart in a neat knit polo while Phillipa Coan kept things effortlessly chic in striped trousers and a vest. The couple, who were first linked in 2015, have been married for seven years after a surprise ceremony in April 2019 at Old Marylebone Town Hall in London.

During their Italian outing the pair were affectionate throughout, sharing kisses and close moments before sitting down for an intimate meal where they continued to gaze at one another. Photos captured the actor smiling, holding his wife’s hand and even giving a playful grab that underscored how at ease they are together.

Family life and reflections on middle age

Jude Law Phillipa Coan have two children together, born in 2020 and 2023, whose names and sexes have not been disclosed. After the arrival of their first child, Jude said: ‘It’s really wonderful. We feel pretty blessed that we were in a time where we could, as a family, just nest and enjoy each other’s company and every day as it came.’

Beyond their children together, Jude is a father to seven in total. He has Rafferty, 29, Iris, 25, and Rudy, 23, with his ex-wife Sadie Frost; Sophia, 16, with model Samantha Burke; and Ada, ten, with singer-songwriter Catherine Harding.

In a 2024 interview he offered a rare window into their partnership and acknowledged Phillipa’s influence on his life and work when asked if she had ‘helped him make bold choices with his career’, a question to which he agreed. He explained: ‘Also, Phil’s a psychologist. So we enjoy a very healthy relationship where we talk a lot about how we feel, our relationships with friends, relationships with our families, and she has a wonderful perspective on all of that…’

He continued in the same interview: ‘I think one should, in middle age, start to reflect. What are the patterns I’ve created? What are the relationships I have? Why do I have them like that? How do I feel about them?’

The Roman stroll came as Jude enjoys a fresh wave of critical attention following a striking transformation for his role as Vladimir Putin in The Wizard Of The Kremlin. The performance was widely praised and described by some critics as awards-worthy.

Throughout a career that has often cast him as a leading man, he has in recent years pursued much grittier parts, including a pock-marked, bloated Henry VIII in 2024’s Firebrand. That shift in choices helped fuel interest in his role in The Wizard Of The Kremlin, where he kept an English accent while portraying the Russian leader.

Critics have been divided over the film as a whole, with ratings varying, but acclaim for Jude’s work has been consistent. One reviewer observed: ‘Jude Law deserved an Oscar this year for playing Vladimir Putin. [His] impersonation of Vladimir Putin is a little masterpiece in shades of grey, a stone-cold character study that transforms the film’s second half.’ The praise for his depiction has been one of the few unanimous notes amid the wider debate about the movie.

On the streets of Rome, however, it was domestic warmth that dominated the headlines: two parents who have built a life together, now enjoying time abroad and happy to show their closeness in public. Jude Law Phillipa Coan appeared completely at ease as they wandered, dined and shared affectionate moments that underline both their private bond and the public interest that still follows them.

Whether discussing family, middle-age reflection or daring career moves, the couple’s connection — and the support Phillipa offers as a psychologist — remains central to how they present themselves, on vacation and in interviews.
