HOUSTON – The Los Angeles Dodgers’ star-studded rotation appeared to take a massive hit just as they were nearing full health after Tyler Glasnow exited Wednesday’s game against the Houston Astros with a trainer due to an apparent injury after throwing just one inning.

Glasnow threw 19 pitches in the first inning and was warming up to start the second inning when he motioned to the Dodger dugout, bent over and yelled in frustration. Manager Dave Roberts and head athletic trainer Thomas Albert quickly scurried to the mound before removing Glasnow after a brief conference.

The Dodgers said Glasnow exited with lower back pain. Jack Dreyer entered in the second in Glasnow’s place.

The right-hander surrendered a leadoff home run to the Astros’ Brice Matthews and recorded the 1,000th and 1,001st strikeouts of his career in his lone inning of work. Glasnow has enjoyed a strong start to the season, building an early Cy Young case as part of a Dodgers rotation that entered Wednesday with a 2.96 ERA that ranked second in baseball.

The Dodgers are already without two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell after the left-hander’s start to the season was delayed due to lingering shoulder inflammation dating back to the start of 2025. Now back at full health, Snell was set to make one final rehab start — Saturday with Single-A Ontario — before likely making his return.

That set up an intriguing question of who the Dodgers would choose from their younger starters (Justin Wrobleski, Emmet Sheehan, Roki Sasaki) to get bumped out of the team’s six-man rotation.

Glasnow’s potential injury could change the complexion of the team’s rotation altogether.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
