Voters across Sefton are going to the polls for a huge set of crucial local elections. This year, the council is holding what are known as ‘all out elections’, where every single seat on the council is up for grabs.

Sefton is made up of 22 wards, with three councillors per ward, so a total of 66 seats will be up for grabs with various different parties battling for those seats.

The council is currently dominated by the Labour Party, which holds 51 of the 66 seats.

There will be 310 candidates standing in the election across the borough’s 66 seats, with each of Sefton’s 22 wards electing three councillors.

The candidate who receives the most votes will be elected to serve a four-year term until May 2030, while the candidate in second place will serve a two-year term until May 2028. The candidate who records the third highest number of votes will serve for one year until May 2027.
