Bayern Munich 1-1 PSG Stats (5-6 Agg): Resilient Holders to Face Arsenal in Champions League Final After Seeing Off Bayern

It wasn’t the goal-fest of the first leg, but Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich played out another thriller in Germany.. Look back at this Champions League semi-final second leg with our Bayern Munich vs PSG stats page.

Paris Saint-Germain showed they also have plenty of defensive resilience as they beat Bayern Munich 6-5 on aggregate in their UEFA Champions League semi-final, following a 1-1 draw in the second leg in Germany, to advance to their second consecutive final.

Ousmane Dembélé put PSG ahead in the third minute at Allianz Arena, suggesting we were in store for a repeat of last week’s epic nine-goal encounter in Paris.

It wasn’t until the 94th minute that the only other goal of the game arrived, though, with Harry Kane firing home, but it was too late as the reigning holders secured their place in the final again. Luis Enrique’s men will face Arsenal in the showpiece event in Budapest on 30 May.

PSG were back in the stadium where they won the Champions League for the first time last season, and it didn’t take long for them to find the net. As expected, it was a sublime move from the French side.

Some beautiful link play down the left side led to Fabián Ruiz making an expert pass in behind for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to run on to. The Georgian cut the ball back to Dembélé, who fired first time into the roof of the net.

The assist from Kvaratskhelia made him the first player in Champions League history to either score or assist in seven consecutive knockout-stage games in the same campaign. The only players to do so in six games in a row are Kaka (2006-07 for Milan), Edin Dzeko (in 2017-18 for Roma) and Dembélé (in 2024-25 for PSG).

It seemed like things were starting as they’d left off in Paris last week, with a hectic tempo as both teams went on the attack.

Bayern were denied an equaliser by a brilliant Nuno Mendes block after Luis Díaz jinked into the penalty area and squared for Michael Olise, only to be thwarted by the PSG left-back. That immediately led to Kvaratskhelia dribbling down the left and cutting inside, only to be denied by the knee of Jonathan Tah.

In the 27th minute, Olise came very close to a typical goal from him. The former Crystal Palace winger cut inside from the right and bent an effort towards the far post, but it flew over the bar by a matter of centimetres.

It was just as close for PSG when a whipped free-kick was headed towards goal by João Neves, but his header across the six-yard box was brilliantly turned wide by Manuel Neuer.

There was a loud shout from the home fans for a Bayern penalty when the ball struck Neves on the arm, but referee João Pinheiro waved it away, seemingly as the ball was kicked against the PSG midfielder by one of his own players.

Bayern came close again to equalising on the night just before half-time as Jamal Musiala drove towards goal and shot with his left foot, but Matvey Safonov pushed it away to his right.

Tah sent a free header from a set-piece just wide in the last action before the half-time whistle went as Bayern went into the break two behind on aggregate.

Kane was struggling to make an impact in the final third; only one of his 24 touches in the first half was in the PSG penalty box.

Désiré Doué and Kvaratskhelia both forced saves from Neuer as PSG looked to increase their advantage early in the second half, but it was their defensive work to keep Bayern at bay that possibly impressed more than their flowing attack.

Díaz forced Safonov into only his second save of the night in the 68th minute with an improvised shot, while Olise hit a disappointing effort straight at the PSG goalkeeper after another run inside from the right.

Bayern looked like they had run out of ideas, but they made the visitors sweat in the final moments after Kane collected the ball from Alphonso Davies in the penalty area and shot high into the top left corner to equalise on the night.

Kane became only the second player in Champions League history to score in six consecutive knockout-stage appearances, after Cristiano Ronaldo (April 2012 – April 2013).

That was ultimately that, though, as PSG held on to book their place in Budapest.

This was not quite the end-to-end thriller that the first leg was, which was testament to PSG. They showed they could keep the most devastating attack in Europe largely under control, and you would be a brave person to bet against them making it back-to-back wins in this competition.

Arsenal will have something to say about that, though…
