Sir Rod Stewart tells Celtic and Rangers fans to ‘behave’ after violent Old Firm

Sir Rod Stewart has issued a plea to Celtic and Rangers supporters to “behave themselves” ahead of this weekend’s explosive Old Firm clash in Glasgow.

The singer, a lifelong Celtic fan, addressed both sets of supporters on social media following questions from fans about the violence that erupted during the March 8 meeting between the rival clubs.

That match saw 20 arrests after Celtic fans invaded the pitch at Ibrox, with Rangers supporters then quickly followed by Rangers fans.

Behaviour at the game was labelled “appalling” by ministers, and First Minister John Swinney said it posed a severe danger to fans, police officers and stewards.

Sir Rod said: “I’ve got no idea what happened.

“There’s no excuses whatsoever.

“I find that behaviour somewhat archaic nowadays.”

Several people, including police officers and members of the public, were injured in the disorder.

Sir Rod confirmed he would be in Glasgow for Sunday’s match and urged fans to act responsibly.

He said: “Let’s try to pull together and behave ourselves.”
