Blue Cross Blue Shield to pay $2.67 billion settlement. Who will see a check?

(Gray News) – Blue Cross Blue Shield has started sending settlement payments from a $2.67 billion class action lawsuit.

A class action lawsuit filed in 2013 against more than 35 Blue Cross Blue Shield plans alleged the company violated antitrust laws by limiting market competition. The suit says those practices led to increased premiums and reduced options for customers.

According to the settlement website, the initial distribution of payments starts this month, and claim notices have already been mailed to customers.

Customers who are eligible had to file a claim by Nov. 5, 2021.

There were about 6 million claims filed by the deadline, and the payments are expected to be around $333 per claim.

Blue Cross Blue Shield denied the claims, and the court did not reach a final verdict, but the case was settled in 2020.
