Dame Judi Dench to return to York for ‘extraordinary’ special event

The legendary Dame Judi Dench is returning to York – to talk about her extraordinary new memoir.

Described as an ‘intimate, joyful, and utterly disarming’ event, Dame Judi will be joined by her friend and writing partner Brendan O’Hea live on stage at York Theatre Royal on Sunday 8 November 2026.

The pair will be in conversation about Is It Too Late To Make A Run For It?, Judi’s new memoir that lifts the curtain on seven decades of performing.

Join Dame Judi as she shares cherished memories and hilarious anecdotes from her incredible career and step behind the camera as she reprises her most famous roles, such as M in James Bond, Iris Murdoch, and Queen Victoria.

A show spokesperson said: “Audience members will also get a glimpse of the real Judi, surrounded by the home she made with her beloved late husband Michael.”

This show will go on sale for YTR members tomorrow Thursday 7 May at 1pm. General on sale will open at 1pm on Friday 8 May.

“Hearing her recount stories from her past has made me appreciate how certain events, experiences, doubts and knock-backs have conspired to make her the extraordinary person and actor she is,” said Brendan O’Hea.

Every ticket includes a hardback copy of Is It Too Late to Make a Run For It.

Dame Judi Dench, who was born in Heworth in York, is one of the world’s most celebrated actresses. She has won numerous major awards for work on both stage and screen – including an Academy Award, ten BAFTAs and a record eight Olivier Awards.
