2 key Indiana Fever players limited at best for season opener vs Dallas Wings, coach says

INDIANAPOLIS — Monique Billings is questionable for the Indiana Fever’s season opener against Dallas on Saturday according to the team’s injury report.

The Fever forward, who signed a two-year deal with the franchise out of free agency this week, injured her ankle in Indiana’s preseason finale on May 2. Since then she has been doing some pregame shooting and participating in warmups for practice, but has not been a part of contact drills.

“I’m not sure, I do what the trainers tell me,” , Fever coach Stephanie White said Friday morning when asked about Billings’ status. “I think we’re gonna try to see a little bit more today and see where she is. I would anticipate that if she does play, she’ll be limited, but we want to continue to see the progress. And every day after activity, it’s reevaluated and then reevaluated after overnight.”

If Billings can’t play, forward Myisha Hines-Allen will likely step into the starting power forward spot on Saturday.

White confirmed that Lexie Hull, who has missed all three preseason games with hamstring tightness, will be available, albeit in limited minutes.

Hull will likely come off the bench, and Sophie Cunningham will start at the wing spot.
