Leo Scienza has been crowned Southampton Men’s First Team Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Season.
The Brazilian winger received 35% of the supporters’ vote, with runner-up Taylor Harwood-Bellis (18%) just edging out January recruit Daniel Peretz (17%), who finished third, as thousands of fans made their selection on the Saints app.
Scienza has registered seven goals and 10 assists in 37 Sky Bet Championship appearances, becoming a cult hero at St Mary’s since his arrival from Bundesliga side Heidenheim on transfer deadline day last September.
The 27-year-old has proved just as popular with his teammates, who joined the supporters in voting for the maverick attacker as their standout Saint, with Harwood-Bellis and Ryan Manning completing the players’ top three.
Addressing the fans directly, Scienza said: “It is a pleasure and an honour to be your Player of the Season. I know it must have been a very difficult decision because we have so many possibilities for this award – you could vote for 10 different players!
“Thank you for your support through the season. Now we are hoping to have a very happy ending to the play-offs, and to be celebrating all together going back to the Premier League.”
