National Weather Service investigating possible tornado in west Mobile County

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The National Weather Service is investigating whether a tornado briefly touched down in west Mobile County Thursday morning after a severe thunderstorm left damage behind.
Storm damage was reported on Alice Drive near Bellingrath Road in Theodore, where a large tree was knocked down in a residential area. The fallen tree also brought down a power line, leaving at least one home without electricity.
No injuries were reported, and nearby homes were not structurally damaged.
Terry Alton, a Theodore resident, said the storm came on fast.
“It was real heavy rain, and then you hear the wind picking up real bad. You hear that noise like a train,” Alton said.
Alton said he has lived in the area for more than 20 years.
“I’ve been here 20-something years, and it’s the first time I’ve heard a twist on our road. It’s a very scary feeling,” he said.
Alabama Power crews arrived roughly an hour later, securing the downed power lines to prevent further danger. Crews from SomPlus Inc. later cleared the fallen tree.
“Alabama Power came out here first, checked it out, cut the wires so nobody gets electrocuted or nothing and everybody stays safe,” Alton said.
Storms have since moved out of the area, but the National Weather Service survey is still underway.
Mobile is under a Marginal Risk for severe weather Friday.
