UFC Freedom 250 tickets: Dana White explains restrictions for White House event

Trump unveils UFC cage designs for June 14 fights on South Lawn

“It’s never going to happen again.” President Donald Trump unveiled a rendering of the temporary UFC cage that will be built on the White House lawn.

The 85,000 tickets the UFC says it will give away to its Freedom 250 event at the White House June 14 won’t exactly be offered in an act of generosity. It’s the law, UFC CEO Dana White explained during a May 8 appearance on CBS Mornings.

“It’s on federal land,” White said, referring to the Ellipse Park that’s across the street from the White House and where 85,000 people are expected to gather and watch the fights on large screens.

“The taxpayers aren’t paying anything,” White added. “We’re (paying) the bill for this whole fight. And I can’t sell a hot dog, a T-shirt or a ticket. Nothing can be sold on federal land.”

White has said people will have to register for those free tickets but has provided no additional information, although Ticketmaster indicates tickets will be available on its website.

Of course, not everyone will be watching from across the street.

White said there will be 4,000 people watching on the South Lawn of the White House. (Previously, he’s said 4,300.)

White said President Donald Trump has 1,000 tickets, White has 200 tickets and another 200 have gone to Ariel Emanuel, CEO of the holding company that owns UFC.

The remaining tickets will go to different branches of the military, according to White.
