Tennessee baseball turned in one of its best offensive performances of its season in its 14-9 victory over Texas on Saturday night Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Vols scored 14 runs on three walks and 16 hits including six home runs in game two of the weekend series, tying their SEC season-high for hits and home runs.
Tennessee has been known for power hitting over the last half decade and with that, Lindsey Nelson Stadium has earned the reputation of a small, hitter-friendly ballpark.
Jackson Schlossnagle, the son of Texas head coach Jim Schlossnagle, took a shot at Tennessee’s home stadium after the Vols’ pummeled Texas’ pitching staff on Saturday night.
“This ballpark is the most bogus trampoline park shit I’ve ever seen,” Jackson posted on X. “Any routine fly ball has a chance.”

Six different Tennessee players hit the Vols’ half dozen home runs. Garrett Wright and Trent Grindlinger went deep in the first inning, Manny Marin hit a home run in the second inning, Blake Grimmer hit a home run in the fourth inning, Reese Chapman hit a home run in the seventh inning and Stone Lawless hit a home run in the eighth inning.
While Lindsey Nelson Stadium is no stranger to a short home run, that was not the case Saturday. Marin’s 387-foot homer was the shortest of Tennessee’s six long balls. Three of the home runs were over 400 feet and five were over 395 feet.
Tennessee clinched the series victory over Texas with the game two win. The Vols took down the Longhorns 5-1 on Friday night behind a dominant seven shutout innings from Tegan Kuhns.
Schlossnagle has plenty of ties to Tennessee’s program. Tony Vitello worked for him at TCU and Josh Elander played for him at TCU. However, Schlossnagle’s teams have struggled against Tennessee.
Since arriving at Texas A&M in 2022, Schlossnagle’s teams are just 2-9 against Tennessee and are 0-3 since he took over in Austin. Of course, Tennessee’s most notable triumph over Schlossnagle came in the 2024 College World Series Final Series.
Tennessee is looking for the series sweep on Mother’s Day at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. First pitch is at noon ET with ESPN2 broadcasting the game.
