Celia Imrie, 73, gets androgynous ‘rockstar‘ hair makeover – with a Celebrity Traitors throwback

Celia Imrie’s red carpet looks are always a delight, but her latest is a surprise hit we didn’t see coming. The iconic actress, 73, swapped her usual polished pixie for a slicked-back androgynous hairstyle that’s being hailed ‘total rockstar’.

Appearing at a party ahead of this weekend’s BAFTAs, Celia arrived in a studded black suit plus white-blouse-and-silky-black-tie combo that could have been straight from Claudia Winkleman’s Celebrity Traitors wardrobe. (Perhaps the commencement of this year’s filming has Celia nostalgic for her own, epic time at Andross Castle.)

Celia’s fabulous rock ’n roll makeover

The styling perfectly complemented the true star of the show: Celia’s dramatic hair makeover. Her auburn hair was worn slicked back in a sleek, chic 50s rockstar style, with a few fronds of fringe pulled playfully forward to riff on a quiff.

Did Claudia inspire Celia’s monochromatic look?

While Celia’s eyes were hidden behind pap-shielding dark sunglasses, what we could see of her makeup signalled ‘world class icon’, from the dark red lips to the gleamy cheeks. A few tongue-in-cheek dramatic poses ensured all eyes were on Celia’s latest look.

‘This Total Rockstar’, as her stylist Arabella Boyce puts it on her social media, entirely correctly.

Celia’s whole vibe gets the thumbs up from hairstylist and OSMO Ambassador Jude Taylor, who tells GH, ‘I love this hair look. The rock’n’roll-inspired pompadour gives it such a cool modern edge, while still feeling glamorous and wearable.’

‘What I love most is that it proves you absolutely don’t have to play it safe with your hair in your 70s, especially with shorter styles. This look feels playful and full of personality, which is exactly why it works so well on her. Honestly, it’s giving total rockstar energy!’

‘The slicked-back hair really accentuates Celia’s bone structure and adds height and confidence to the overall style (that trouser suit – very cool!), but the softer fringe detail stops it feeling too severe or overly polished.’

The colour works beautifully, too, adds Jude. ‘That softer golden copper tone is incredibly flattering against her skin tone. We’re seeing a real move towards these more luminous copper tones in the salon now, rather than stronger red-based coppers, because they feel softer and far more wearable.’
