Vince Gilligan made it clear fans might have to wait years for a new season of Pluribus – but fortunately, new episodes might arrive a bit quicker than that.

The Apple TV+ series, created by Breaking Bad’s Gilligan, follows Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), a fantasy romance novelist who must save the world after the rest of humanity becomes a hive mind.

After the conclusion of the first season in December, fans naturally wondered when it would return, with Gilligan saying that the writing team was “plugging away” on the next batch of episodes but wasn’t sure “what year” exactly it would make it to screens.

We can now assume that the show will return in 2027, thanks to a filming update about season two courtesy of Karolina Wydra, who played Carol’s hive-mind representative Zosia. According to Wydra, filming will commence later this year.

She added that she is excited for the show’s primary cast members to reunite in Albuquerque, where Pluribus is filmed, telling ScreenRant: “I cannot wait for us to be together every day. So I don’t know when we’re going back, but I cannot wait. I’m counting the days. Sometime in the fall.”

Speaking about the premise of the series, Gilligan told The Independent: “I wanted the audience to think: ‘Is this apocalypse good or bad?’ That’s pretty much all you need to know.

“I hope people who are really into mystery-box storytelling stick with this one, but I don’t know that this is going to be a twisty-turny-type show. But we will endeavour, as always, to keep things interesting.”

The showrunner, whose previous credits include The X-Files, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, said he envisions the show lasting four seasons.

“The thing that got me most excited about Pluribus was writing a hero again,” he said. “I realised it had been 23 years since I wrote hero characters – Agent Mulder and Agent Scully.

“After a while of that, I thought it’d be kinda fun to do an anti-hero, and then Walter White [Breaking Bad] comes along, and then Walter begets Jimmy McGill [Better Call Saul]. And I’ve been doing that for 20 years now! I love those characters and those actors, but then I realised the real world isn’t getting any nicer and I was ready to write a hero again.”
