Company Sony plans to release a console The next-generation PlayStation 6 and its accompanying handheld device will be released in late 2027. This move will mark the Japanese manufacturer’s official return to the dedicated handheld gaming market after more than a decade. Development of both devices is being conducted in parallel to ensure a simultaneous global launch.

Pricing for the future platforms is still under discussion, but preliminary analyst estimates indicate the desktop model will cost between $599 and $799. The portable version will cost between $499 and $699. Final retail prices will be confirmed by the manufacturer by the middle of next year, depending on component supply. Support for physical disc media is announced exclusively for the home version of the console.

Both gaming systems will feature full hardware support for backward compatibility. The devices will be able to natively run games from the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 libraries, as well as titles developed specifically for PlayStation 6. This will allow users to retain access to previously purchased content without the need for cloud services or repurchasing digital copies.
