Pep Guardiola was right about Arsenal all along

Pep Guardiola knows football, and that is being proven again by none other than his title rivals, Arsenal. The Gunners are edging closer to Premier League title success, with Mikel Arteta’s men hoping to end the club’s more than two-decade-long wait for a league title.

If Arsenal win each of their last two games, they will be champions, and they may not even need to pick up all six points, depending on how City do in their last three games.

Arsenal prove the metal Guardiola knew they had

On Sunday, the Gunners defeated West Ham after late drama that saw Leandro Trossard score a winner and the Hammers score an equaliser only for the goal to be ruled out on VAR review.

The late VAR drama aside, Arsenal showed that they are champion quality, and not for the first time in that particular week. The Gunners had already beaten Atletico Madrid in a close tie to secure their first Champions League final in 20 years, and they found the same sort of resolve against West Ham.

In an ultra-tight game where West Ham were desperate for a point to aid their survival bid, Arsenal dug deep, remained composed and found the goal they needed to keep their title bid on track.

Pep Guardiola has been proven right about Arsenal yet again

That is the mark of champions, and it’s why Guardiola called the Gunners one of the best teams in the world earlier in the spring. He said: “Alongside Bayern Munich and maybe Barcelona as well, [Arsenal are] the best team in Europe.”

Arsenal were on a wobble of sorts over the course of the early spring, but Guardiola still recognised the quality of Mikel Arteta’s team, and we all should have taken notice.

As the Gunners close in on the title and show the depth of their quality in these tight, must-win games, we are now seeing just how right Guardiola was about this team.

And what makes it all the more impressive is that this Arsenal team does not have the firepower of PSG or Bayern Munich, but they still find a way to win games consistently, owing to their possession of one of the best defensive and midfield lines in the world.

What is most interesting is that Arsenal face PSG in the Champions League final, and that will be the ultimate test when it comes to finding out which team is the very best in the world.

We will also get a glimpse at how Arteta stacks up against PSG boss Luis Enrique, who is clearly one of the best managers in the world, given his success with the Parisiens, and previously at Barcelona.
