Asuka appears on Raw, passes the torch to Iyo Sky, says goodbye

In the days following her loss to Iyo Sky at Backlash this past weekend, it’s been nothing but confusion regarding Asuka’s status with WWE and pro wrestling more generally. They did a grand goodbye in the immediate aftermath, and then tributes started rolling in. Cryptic social media posts fanned the flames.
Rumors and reports didn’t seem to have much more clarity on the situation. She could be semi-retired or she could be dealing with personal issues. It’s not clear. Then, word came she could be appearing on Monday Night Raw in Nashville this week, and with that hope her status would be cleared up.
This seemed more definitive:
Asuka met with Sky backstage to say “I was looking for someone to take over my position. Finally you’ve become the person. I’m so glad it was you. I’m proud of you.”
Sky then outright said “goodbye” before Asuka walked out of the building with her travel bag. There’s no other way to interpret that one. The question simply becomes: is it goodbye for right now or goodbye for good?
WWE promised an update later in the show, and we’ll update with that when it comes in. (UPDATE: The big update was to say “her future is up in the air” and basically that they don’t know any more than the rest of us. Cool.)
Sad all over again like me?
