Grantsville officer linked to call in video under internal investigation

Police in Grantsville have confirmed that the officer recorded on a call with a former West Valley police officer in Eugene, Oregon, is employed with the Grantsville Police Department.

The officer with the Eugene Police Department in Oregon resigned immediately after the video circulated on social media.

Officer Garrett Frier was employed at the West Valley Police Department from 2003 to 2023, when he retired. In 2025, he was hired by the Grantsville Police Department.

The body camera video, released over the weekend, shows former West Valley police officer and then–Eugene Police Department officer Martin Siller during a shift earlier this year. Throughout the video, Siller makes several racist and homophobic remarks.

In one 23-minute clip, Siller is on the phone with Freir. They gossip about former and current colleagues, including discussing domestic violence, how to be rehired after being investigated for misconduct, and personal affairs.

In another interaction, Freir makes racist remarks, invoking historical stereotypes of Black people.

Grantsville police told 2News that Freir confirmed he is the person on the other end of the call. As of Tuesday, the department has opened an internal investigation into the phone call, saying it needs “more context” and to review the full interaction.
