Very warm Tuesday, then turning cooler & showery

- Very warm tomorrow, but quick cooling + wind late day
- Much cooler and showery at times Wednesday-Saturday
- Possibly warmer/drier again NEXT week
VERY WARM TUESDAY
Strong high pressure is blocking all weather systems from moving inland anywhere along the West Coast. The result is temperatures running much warmer than normal not only today, but Tuesday as well.
We expect temperatures to rise 3-5 degrees tomorrow, with western valleys peaking between 78 and 85 degrees. We do not expect any hot weather tomorrow west of the Cascades.
Tuesday Forecast High(KPTV)
PATTERN CHANGE ARRIVES TUESDAY EVENING
A somewhat dramatic change occurs later tomorrow afternoon. A major surge of cool marine air pours inland, through gaps in the Coast Range. This means temperatures peak early-mid afternoon, then you’ll notice a gusty west, southwest, or northwest wind after about 2pm along with cooling temperatures.
Tuesday Timeline(KPTV)
By 6pm, it’ll be pretty obvious the very warm temps are finished. This is due to an approaching Pacific cold front. Just ahead of this front’s arrival early Wednesday morning, a shower or thundershower could pop up late tomorrow evening (after sunset) or overnight. Make sure anything that can’t get wet is covered by sunset tomorrow evening just in case!
METRO TONIGHT:
Mainly clear and warm. Lows 50-55°
METRO TUESDAY:
Mainly sunny and warm through early afternoon. Highs 82-85°. Breezy westerly wind arrives mid-late afternoon with gusts to 30 mph as temperatures drop. Noticeably cooler for evening commute. A shower is possible after sunset. Slight chance of a thundershower at that time, mainly the east metro.
SHOWERS RETURN
Showers return Wednesday(KPTV)
Wednesday will be very different; morning rain followed by scattered showers and temperatures 20 degrees cooler in the afternoon. Another cool system drops into the region Thursday night through early Saturday for another round of showers. We are overdue for some rain; it’s been unusually dry since late April.
Rain Forecast: Tuesday – Saturday(KPTV)
Overall, we’re heading back to normal May weather (some showers at times) after tomorrow. Most likely that cooler/wetter weather pattern lasts 5-7 days.
