2026 NFL schedule leaks: Detroit Lions’ Germany opponent revealed

As the rumors suggested on Tuesday night, the Detroit Lions’ opponent for their 2026 game in Munich, Germany, will be the New England Patriots. The NFL officially announced the Week 10 matchup on Wednesday morning.
This is the Lions’ first international game since 2015, when Detroit lost in embarrassing fashion to the Kansas City Chiefs in London. Detroit has only played two international games in team history, posting a 1-1 record, with both games played in London.
For the Patriots, this will be their sixth international game. They’ve posted a 3-2 record overseas, with their last global game coming in 2024: a 32-16 loss to the Jaguars in London. This will also be New England’s second time playing in Germany, having lost to the Colts in Frankfurt back in 2023.
On paper, this is one of the better international matchups in recent history. The Patriots are coming off a trip to the Super Bowl and seem like a team that could be a contender in the AFC for several years to come. While the Lions are hoping to rebound after a tough 2025 season.
It’s been four years since the Lions and Patriots have played each other, but New England has dominated the series as of late. Since 2000, the Patriots have won five of seven matchups, and the 2022 game was one of the most embarrassing losses in the Dan Campbell era (29-0).
