Qatar Airways announces update on Middle East flights – here’s what passengers need to know

Qatar Airways has announced it is resuming more Middle East flight routes, as the airline continues to rebuild its network following airspace closures caused by the US-Iran war. On Wednesday, 13 May, Qatar Airways confirmed the resumption of its twice-daily flights to Abu Dhabi. The route is the airline’s third to resume in the UAE, following Dubai and Sharjah last month.
Abu Dhabi joins a growing list of Middle Eastern destinations Qatar Airways has resumed flights to, with Bahrain, Baghdad and Erbil also recently announced. The airline has been gradually rebuilding its route network after the US-Iran war forced the suspension of thousands of flights across the Middle East. The Doha-based airline was among the worst affected in the region, reportedly forced to park some of its fleet at Teruel Airport in rural Spain throughout March. According to Reuters, the Doha-based airline stored some 17 planes at the former military base, which was previously used during the Covid pandemic to house grounded planes.
However, in a recent update, Qatar Airways said its flight network will operate to 150 destinations by 16 June.
Here, we look at the latest travel news and updates for Qatar Airways passengers.

Latest news and advice for Qatar Airways passengers
Since the start of the war in late February, airspace across the Gulf region has been affected, with drone and missile strikes leading to widespread airspace closures and limitations.
Airlines, including Qatar Airways, have been doing all they can to get back up and running while ensuring passenger and crew safety, operating limited flight schedules via safe air corridors. And with the news of the extension of the temporary ceasefire, there are hopes that air travel in the region can continue its recovery.
In Qatar Airways’s latest statement, released on Wednesday, 13 May, the airline said: “Qatar Airways continues to restore its network across the Middle East, with the resumption of double-daily passenger flights to Abu Dhabi (AUH), the capital of the United Arab Emirates.”
The routes are part of a network expansion announced last week, when the airline confirmed its flight network would be increasing in time for summer. “Qatar Airways is expanding its international flight network, with services to over 150 destinations from 16 June 2026, connecting more passengers to more of the world this summer,” the statement says.
The updated schedule will operate throughout the summer until 15 September, and will include new routes and increased frequencies to and from Doha.

Passengers with confirmed bookings will be notified directly if any flight information changes. The airline continues to recommend checking its website or app regularly and ensuring contact details are kept up to date
