Chicago Fire season 14 episode 21 is the final episode for an original member of the team

There’s no telling what the Chicago Fire season 14 finale will bring, but there is one thing that is certain about episode 21: it’s the final episode for one original member of the Chicago Fire family.

Chicago Fire season 14, episode 21, “Thank You,” serves as the final episode that was overseen by showrunner Andrea Newman, whose time with the show is sadly coming to an end. Newman, who has been a part of the show’s creative team since the very first season of Chicago Fire, is stepping away to pursue new creative endeavors, with the season 14 finale serving as her final episode on the show – at least for now.

“Working at Chicago Fire, with the absolute best cast and crew in the business, has been the highlight of my career,” Newman said at the time, announcing her departure from the show. “Like so many others, I was inspired to get into TV writing because of Dick, so what a thrill it’s been to work with him and the amazing Wolf team of Peter Jankowski, Rebecca McGill and Anastasia Puglisi. I’m so grateful to them, Derek Haas and the NBC and Universal execs who have been so supportive of the show all along the way. After 14 years, you really do become a family and working with this group will always feel like home.”

While Newman might not be a member of the cast whose character fans have fallen in love with over the years, she’s one of the reasons these characters we know and love exist. Through her various capacities on the show over the last 14 years, Newman has helped to shape Chicago Fire into the show that has become such an important part of the lives of millions of fans worldwide.

Her guiding voice, particularly in the last five seasons, has brought about some incredible storylines for the likes of Severide, Kidd, Herrmann, Mouch, Cruz, Violet, and all of the amazing characters who have passed through the doors of Firehouse 51. Newman’s exit from the franchise marks a major turning point for the show, one that will see a new chapter begin with Victor Teran stepping in to steer the ship, beginning in season 15.

Because Newman is a member of the creative team, fans might overlook the fact that the season 14 finale is her final episode with the show, and this moment deserves to be recognized. Creatives such as Newman are the backbone of the industry and help make it possible for a show like Chicago Fire to enjoy the longevity that it has by keeping fans entertained for over a decade.

The One Chicago franchise won’t be the same without Newman, and it’s only fitting that her final episode with the show is entitled “Thank You,” because the Chicago Fire fans owe her a major thank you for taking such amazing care of the characters we love. Hopefully, this will not be a goodbye but rather an until next time, but we at One Chicago Center thank Newman for 14 incredible years as part of the One Chicago family!
