Fire‘s Season 14 finale (“Thank You”) was a high-octane rollercoaster for the full fleet of first responders as they navigated excitement both in and out of the firehouse. Chihards celebrated the return of several fan favorites: 51’s former Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) returned to give Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) some career advice, while Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Severide’s foster son, Isaiah (Hero Hunter), also visited his family. Their return couldn’t have come at a better time as Herrmann (David Eigenberg) and Cindy (Robyn Coffin) renewed their vows with a heartwarming ceremony at Molly’s, bringing the entire Firehouse 51 family together.

With so much happiness and excitement afoot, it was a certified jaw-dropper once nearly all of Firehouse 51 found their lives in danger only days later. Chicago Fire‘s Season 14 finale (“Thank You”) ended in utter disaster after the firefighters addressed a blazing inferno that left many fates up in the air.
Who got caught in Chicago Fire‘s Season 14 finale explosion?
Tasked with being the front-of-the-line recovery team, the entirety of Rescue Squad 3 got trapped inside the building during the explosion. Despite Pascal’s desperate warning, the lives of Kelly Severide, Mouch McHolland (Christian Stolte), Joe Cruz (Joe Miñoso), Tony Ferraris (Anthony Ferraris), and Harold Capp (Randy Flagler) are in jeopardy after the Squad 3 firefighters failed to evacuate in time.
As if it could get worse, Truck 81 also landed in danger after attempting to evacuate the rooftop. Just as Stella overheard the explosion surging from below, she ushered Herrmann, Sal Vasquez (Brandon Larracuente), and Ballard (Leroy S. Williams III) down the ladder, but they didn’t have time to descend before a massive explosion engulfed all of Truck 81.
Pascal and the 51 paramedics were horrified by the frightening scene as Severide could be heard over the radio screaming, “Mayday! Mayday!” The majority of Firehouse 51 are entangled within an untamed inferno, and Chihards are crossing fingers for a successful rescue with so much at risk.
The stakes are high going into Chicago Fire Season 15
Chicago Fire‘s Season 14 finale alternated between the present-day fire and flashback sequences, giving Chihards a hint of the disaster to come while also addressing some open ends. In the days leading up to the ill-fated inferno, several Firehouse 51 fan favorites celebrated exciting milestones and moments, so the devastation couldn’t come at a worse time.

Aside from Herrmann and Cindy celebrating their vow renewal and breaking ground on their new home, Cruz and his wife were elated to discover they have twin girls on the way. Meanwhile, as Severide and Stella contemplated whether Severide should become Firehouse 51’s next Captain or the Chief of OFI, they got a surprise visit from their foster son, Isaiah. After Isaiah confessed he was happier in Chicago than in Cleveland, Stellaride promised to chat about it with Isaiah’s loved ones after taking him back. Oh, and did we mention Mouch landed a long-awaited book deal?
From babies on the way to life-changing career pivots, the excitement has been firing off on all cylinders for the 51 firefighters, so the stakes are higher than ever. With so many Firehouse 51 lives tossed in a morbidly precarious balance, Chihards can’t wait for Season 15 to learn their fates.
In the meantime, watch Chicago Fire on Peacock.
