Patriots vs. Seahawks Super Bowl rematch to kick off 2026 NFL season

The New England Patriots had a front row seat to the Seattle Seahawks winning the Super Bowl in February. Now, they will have a front row seat to seeing them unveil their championship banner.

The NFL’s 2026 season opener will feature a Super Bowl LX rematch between the two teams.

The game will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Seattle’s Lumen Field with the kickoff set for 8:20 p.m. ET. League insider Jordan Schultz was first to report the matchup.

The season opener will take place roughly seven months removed from the Patriots and Seahawks capping off the 2025 season.

Their Super Bowl meeting was a defensive affair early on, but Seattle was still able to jump to a 19-0 lead by the early fourth quarter. While Drake Maye and company showed some sporadic signs of life afterwards, the NFC champions kept the upper hand to secure a 29-13 victory.

The game in Seattle is one of nine road games for the Patriots in 2026. Another one of those was announced earlier on Wednesday, a trip to Germany to take on the Detroit Lions in the NFL International Series.

The full 2026 regular season schedule will be released on Thursday, May 14, in an 8 p.m. ET primetime event.
